Introduction
I started my career in 1991 after qualifying as a Graphic Designer from the Johannesburg Art Foundation-South Africa. After graduating from college, I worked in an advertising agency, designing corporate identities, layouts and print commercials.
In 1994, I began as an Animator at the VideoLab, South Africa’s largest post-production facility, working on local and international TV commercials. This progressed into film, and in 2000 moved to New Zealand where I worked as a Lead in a generalist capacity at Silverscreen productions.
At this time I also began pre-viz on Lord Of The Rings.
On moving to Australia in mid-2001, I began work at Animal Logic completing previz and lead animation on The Matrix: Reloaded and TVCs, and continued as Lead Animator under Chris Godfrey’s guidance completing previz at Bazmark for Baz Luhrmann’s planned Alexander and then again as lead on The Great Raid.
In 2004, I was offered a position on Harry Potter 3 and Harry Potter 4 at Framestore-CFC London as a lighting TD. Having been a generalist I found this a wonderful challenge but easy to slot into.
I then went on to work on two award-winning BBC long form projects before returning to Australia.
Upon returning to Animal Logic, I served as Assembly Department Supervisor on George Miller’s Happy Feet and then as previz artist and 3d Supervisor on Alex Proyas’ Knowing starring Nicholas Cage. It has been my aim to be as competent as possible in several genres of the film making process, from previz and postviz to animation.
This I believe has served me well in supervisory and lead roles when dealing with teams in different departments. Having a better understanding and respect for their challenges, and hence more informed suggestions when assisting the client, on and off set.
After holding the position of Animation Supervisor at Animal Logic on the fully animated feature, The Lego Movie under the mentorship of director Chris McKay and the legendary Rob Coleman, I returned to the box as a senior artist on Unbroken and Lego Batman, thereafter Anim directing the marketing for the movie, including the award winning Lego Batman MTV Cribs short.
I took a 3 month opportunity setting up the animation hub for the company at the Vancouver office for Lego Movie 2, after which I returned to Sydney to continue animation on Lego Ninjago, Lego Movie 2 and Peter Rabbit 1 & 2.
I am currently Anim Directing various children’s series for Apple TV, NBC and Warhammer cinematic intro’s.
